Workshops
We hold regular workshops throughout the year. Topics range from intensive and in depth work on asanas to the philosophical and spiritual aspects of yoga and meditation. Workshops during 2009 included the Celtic Yoga Journey Workshops: Spring; Summer and Autumn and the popular Yin Yoga Workshop. We also run a regular Saturday morning Beginners Introduction to Hatha Yoga.
Workshops for 2010
Beginners’ Introduction to Hatha Yoga
Kagyu Samye Dzong Glasgow
A morning devoted to introducing beginners to Hatha Yoga. It will be suitable for absolute beginners who would like an introduction before they start attending our general classes or those with some experience in yoga who would like a back to basics refresher.
In this three hour workshop we will guide new students through the basic structure of a typical class, with more instruction to ensure that you are comfortable with each stage. It will include work on the breath, breath awareness and basic pranayama ( breathing exercises); classic Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutations); a series of basic Asanas ( Postures) focusing on alignment & anatomical awareness; Relaxation; Meditation and a little bit of chanting ( of OM) at the end.
You won’t be an expert at the end of the workshop, that’s not how it works! The workshop is designed simply as a fairly intensive introduction to Hatha Yoga so that you can comfortably attend a general class without feeling uncomfortable or out of place. Our aim is for you to be able to come to our general class on a Tuesday night and be familiar with the structure and flow of the class and have experienced some of the practices. The rest will follow with practice and commitment.
Beginners’ Workshop Dates:
Saturday 9th January 10 am – 1 pm . £15
Saturday 20th February 10 am – 1 pm. £15
Saturday 20th March 10 am – 1 pm. £15
Those purchasing a six class ticket on the day for our general classes , will receive a £5 discount.
Celtic Yoga Journey Workshops 2010

Drawing on the spirit of Yoga and the Spirit of Place, Celtic Yoga explores the deep connections in these two spiritual traditions. Combining traditional hatha yoga asana, breath work and chant with celtic meditations and blessings, we will manifest a creative and healing seasonally inspired journey through the chakras. We’ll focus on the elements, nature, and the ancient Celtic points of the calendar. Each seasonal workshop will look at practices and ritual to honour the energy of each season.

Yin Yoga Workshops 2010
Kagyu Samye Dzong Glasgow
Most forms of Yoga practiced today emphasise muscular movement and contraction. By contrast Yin Yoga targets the connective tissue of the hips, pelvis and lower spine. Yin postures are held three to five to ten minutes at a time. This type of practice complements the more muscular (Yang) styles of Yoga and echoes much of the classical Hatha yoga teachings which emphasise asana as a preparation for sitting in meditation. Yoga practised in this style is accessible to anybody with any level of experience. It should appeal to anyone who wishes to focus on the healthand mobility of their joints and in particular may benefit dancers, sports people and athletes who may wish to focus on joint mobility or who may experience joint issues. It may also appeal to Yoga teachers and serious students who would like to integrate aspects of Yin Yoga into their own practice.
This workshop with experienced teacher of Hatha and Yin Yoga, Jude Murray, will explore various Yin sequences and some of the theory associated with practising yoga in this style. Jude had the pleasure of studying Yin Yoga with one of its leading exponents and teachers and renowned teacher of yoga anatomy, Paul Grilley.
Sunday 28th February 11 am – 4 pm. £30
Sunday 8th August 11 am – 4 pm. £30
Booking
Please try to book and pay for your workshop at least 10-14 days in advance. There may be places at the last minute but you might be disappointed. The other reason is that we may need to cancel or postpone the course if enough people haven’t booked. We have to do this at least 1 week in advance to allow us enough time to cancel the venue, inform other participants and deal with any administration.
Payments
The full cost of workshops are payable in advance. You can pay by cheque (payable to J Murray – I will give you the address when you book your place), by direct banking or by debit/credit card using PayPal. Please note that PayPal payments carry an additional fee for administration. If you normally see me at class you may also pay in cash if you prefer. Please ask for details for whichever payment method you choose.
Cancellation/Refund Policy
If you have booked a place and are unable to attend a workshop for any reason, please let us know as soon as possible so that your place may be offered to someone else. If you cancel up to 2 weeks in advance of the course and your place is able to be sold to someone else, you may receive a full refund. Unsold places and cancellations within 2 weeks of the course, as well as non-attendance on the day are completely non-refundable. In certain circumstances, you may be able to transfer the payment to an alternative future workshop or course.
In the event of the cancellation of an event by Mahashakti Yoga, you will receive a full refund of the course fee. If an event is moved from its advertised venue and / or the date is changed, your payment will remain valid if you wish to attend the rescheduled event. If not, we will refund the full payment by cheque.
